Or do you think the system works well with just revpatch=cpuname?
This is correct here
I can update with this
The only problem is system says I have 4 slot of memory full instead of 8
And this happens like when I do not use the kext
pros using the kext is a correct processor name

PCI slot notifications are enabled, do you see any of those notifications?
I see only memory notification if I clean my nvram and only in first reboot
With a working nvram also without the kext this errors disappear after first boot ( after cleaning nvram I mean)

If you're willing to try one more experiment, it would be this:
  • Test 5:
    • revpatch=cpuname,pci,asset

to double check I have checked again revpatch=cpuname boot arg
it is the only one working for incremental update

OpenCore 0.8.8 and AppleALC 1.7.8 now available:

AppleALC 1.7.8 adds Layout 20 for Gigabyte B550 Vision D and Layout 15 for Asus ROG Strix X570-F Gaming:

Yes even idle power consumption is high, but that very much seems like a driver or firmware issue. Even though performance is as expected, it is still significantly better than 6900/6950.

For us in the Macintosh and Hackintosh world, it doesn’t make much sense to compare performance against Nvidia RTX because those cards effectively don’t exist for us. So a generation to generation leap should be considered from the 6900/6950 to the 7900XT/XTX. And that seems like a good leap.

And we should not forget about DisplayPort 2.1 and new high-refresh rate monitors coming soon to CES.

Imagine: True 5K high refresh rate monitors over a single DP 2.1 cable. No need for merging two DP 1.2 streams over Thunderbolt and paying the Thunderbolt price.

I don’t play games, but I really value high-resolution, high-refresh rate, high native contrast, high color accuracy monitors. Monitors are probably the single most vital component of the human-to-computer interface.

RTX 4000 does not support DP 2.1.
Speaking of true 5K monitors and connection via single DisplayPort cable, here comes the Samsung ViewFinity S9:

We don't have all the information, so questions do remain.
  • It provides Thunderbolt 4, DisplayPort, HDMI, and USB-C inputs with 96W charging
  • IPS panel; HDR600
  • METAL construction!
  • Ships with 4K webcam
  • Has Tizen TV OS (blah)
  • 27" diagnoal (perfect for me -- I don't want 30" or 32")
  • Will it have mini-LED? We don't know
  • What will it cost? We don't know
  • Max refresh rate? We don't know
Looking forward to all the CES 2023 announcements...

I WAS JUST ABOUT TO POST A FORUM THREAD ON THIS!! Finally we have another worthy 5K entrant to the market, Iiyama was a bit of a dud in terms the panel only being 8-bit and the I/O being really janky. Hopefully we have full DP1.4/2.1 as well... I am also a huge fan of the 5K 27" panels, mini-LED/OLED and 120Hz+ is the only thing missing to make it to the holy grail... Yeah I am very curious what it brings to the table. Thanks for mentioning it Casey!

** Update on RestrictEvents with MacPro7,1 **

For the time being I have added boot argument revpatch=cpuname to enable only CPU name patching via RestrictEvents. This allows incremental macOS updates to function on AMD Ryzentoshes. Because Memory and PCI Slot notifications are not being disabled, I'm doing the following:
  • I'm simply ignoring the PCI slot configuration page
  • I've applied custom memory settings to avoid memory notifications
Custom memory settings are based on this post by rj510 on TonyMac:

He provided a sample plist (attached) that provides pre-configured settings for 2-DIMMs, 4-DIMMs, and 8-DIMMs. On the Asus X670E Gene we have only 2 DIMM slots so I'm using that template.

UPDATE:
  • To remove the warning about populating a minimum of 4 DIMM slots, I made the following change:
Screenshot 2023-01-02 at 1.56.44 PM.png
  • Now we see all green dots and the total reported memory is 32GB (which is correct)
  • It does not matter that the graphic shows 4 populated slots
Screenshot 2023-01-02 at 1.58.45 PM.png
Does anyone know how to clear this Alert, which occurred after initially enabling memory slot notification? Disabling memory slot notification does not clear it; neither does resetting NVRAM.

更新:
  • 为了删除有关填充至少 4 个 DIMM 插槽的警告,我进行了以下更改:
View attachment 9316
  • 现在我们看到所有绿点,报告的总内存为 32GB(这是正确的)
  • 图形显示 4 个填充插槽并不重要
View attachment 9318
有谁知道如何清除最初启用内存插槽通知后发生的此警报?禁用内存插槽通知不会清除它;重置NVRAM也不会。

I tried to add revpatch=cpuname to boot-args and reset NVRAM, I did not apply custom memory information。the memory page is indeed a problem, but I didn't get any error notification (I have 4 memory slots, I installed 8Gx2), maybe it is a good start

Der Ba8auer just posted an update to the Radeon 7900 vapor chamber controversy. Good news I think, particularly for AMD: Design of the chamber seems fine, but some cards appear to have shipped with less fluid. Can more fluid be added easily? Not sure, but there appears to be a fill/pressure port in one corner.

I’ll restore my recent full backup and see if the alert disappears and remains that way…

Just completed a fresh reinstallation of macOS Ventura:
  • If we use Migration Assistant, the "Alert" message comes back
  • So I manually reinstalled and re-licensed all of my apps, and manually copied all files and documents
The "Alert" message is gone and my OCD is resting peacefully once more... :)

2023 is shaping up to be a fantastic year for computer monitors…

Some more details:
  • 4K webcam
  • 14W speakers (nice)
  • Thunderbolt 4
  • HDMI
  • DisplayPort 2.1 — very nice!!
  • USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) ports (nice)
  • 2.5 GbE Ethernet — wow!
  • Pop-down USB ports on front — wow!
  • Fully adjustable stand — take that, Apple!

** 5.1 Channel Surround Sound Experiment **

For my Intel-based Asus ProArt Z690-Creator, I've just created a new Layout 14 that implements 5.1 channel surround sound. I can do the same for AMD-based Gigabyte B550 Vision D or for a board that you own (must be PCH-based audio, not USB).

Because I cannot test 5.1 channel output easily, I would like to see if there's anyone who is interested in testing this.

This post on TonyMacx86 describes the changes:

Here are some screenshots:

We need to use Audio MIDI Setup from Applications -> Utilities folder to configure multi-channel output. All output channels are combined into a single Internal Speakers or Built-in Output. By default it is configured for 2-channel output:
Screenshot 2023-01-03 at 5.52.38 PM.png
If we select the Format drop-down, we see a number of new 6 channel options:
Screenshot 2023-01-03 at 5.52.43 PM.png
If we choose any of the 6 channel modes, the main window will show all channels. If we then select Configure Speakers...

Screenshot 2023-01-03 at 5.52.51 PM.png
... we will see this. But if we click the Configuration drop-down menu, we can change from Stereo to...
Screenshot 2023-01-03 at 6.11.48 PM.png

... four different surround modes:
Screenshot 2023-01-03 at 5.53.05 PM.png
If we select 5.1 Surround, for example, we then see this graphic:
Screenshot 2023-01-03 at 5.53.13 PM.png

UPDATE: Surround does not seem to work on AMD platforms. We do not see 6-channel options under Format in Audio MIDI Setup.
