6950XT, 6900XTXH: spoof 6900(XT): BF730000
6650XT: spoof 6600(XT): FF730000

you are right.. I am an idiot or I have latent dyslexia and did not notice the BF in place of the FF...

kill me now...

I ended up losing 3 hours of sleep troubleshooting and reinstalling MacOS Monterey.

i learned several things tho...

for one, my Time Machine Backup (and restore/migration) works well.

i have never restored form time machine backup on any mac I have ever owned. it was pretty seamless except for the fact that my install media was Montery 12.4 and my newest yesterday backup was 12.something else so it had to auto update to the later version of Monterey and I thought it was going to brick my perfectly working install. not so, i woke up the next day and everything was working as normal, except for radion sensor b/c the EFI on my USB stick that I was using to boot into MacOS did not have the radeonSenso.kext loaded.

secondly, I did not need an SSDT for my 6950XT, only the device ID spoof. what a relief.

i will say that my 5950X has a 6900XT Ultimate and I feel like I was getting slightly better performance numbers on that system vs my 7950X and 6950XT but I haven't done proper benchmarks. I quickly scanned my photos for old benchmarks with the 6900XT Ultimate and found only one.. 202 avg FPS at 1050P vs 214 avg FPS at 1080P in shadow of the Tomb Raider.. but I am not convinced.

I also learned that SwitchResX forces my LG OLED into 1920x1080 mode when I select 120Hz refresh!

This is fine b/c it is the scaled resolution that I have for displaying the desktop, but also If I want to run benchmarks in 4K, (in SOTTR for example, I have to drop the refresh rate to 60Hz. which I find most annoying.

one final data point... my WIndows 11 Pro build which was working fine yesterday somehow became a casualty of all the 6650Xt to 6950XT swapping. I can no longer see it in the BIOS and while I thought it was bootable in the OC boot selector on my USB thumb stick, once the thumb stick is removed, I no longer see it as an option for booting. so I will have to reinstall windows for the upteenth time...

meanwhile I broke down and bought CyberPunk on GOG b/c it was on sale for $30 this weekend. so much for my masterplan of using it to run benchmarks.

like I said above: Kill me now...

My Fractal North case is arriving sometime this weekend and I will start building my long delayed 7950X / X670E Creator build. I had hoped that the 7900XTX would be natively supported by the time I started building this 3rd (and for the time being final) Hackintosh, but so far we are only holding on to fumes of hope regarding the W7900XT. my current plan is to install the 6900XT Ultimate into the 670E Creator build and swap out the 6650XT into the older 5950X build.

fun times.

The Fractal North is AWESOME! Just make sure you get a good cooler.
Posting my build and EFI in the other part of the forum shortly! Success Stories AMD-OSX Link
