Hello,

I'm trying to install macOS 12.7.6 Monterey on my old FX system :

CPU : AMD FX-4300
MB : MSI MSI 760GA-P43 (FX)
GPU : AMD Radeon Pro WX 3100 (will spoof it later)
SSD : CS900 250 GB
OC : latest release (1.0.8)

EFI made by myself. My board doesn't support UEFI so I create the USB installer with Mist on my MacBook Pro and installed OpenDuet on the SSD directly. OpenCore Release boots (Debug doesn't even work, only underscore blinking) and sees the installer (only when plugged in a USB 2 port). However, it's stuck on "authenticate efi forwarded" and soon after, I get a buggy stop sign and I have to force reboot the computer. USBMap.kext was made in Windows 10 with USBToolBox (bind companions and native classes enabled). I'm definitely experienced with UEFI systems but absolutely not with legacy ones. Maybe I'm missing something...

Thank you by advance !

The Kernel Panic with the Prohibited sign is a common one for old FX systems. Basically the USB port the installer is using has been dropped and the installation package can no longer be found. Hence the message ‘Still waiting for root device’.

You need to move the installer USB installation drive to a different USB port, one that continues to work when the macOS has taken over from OpenCore.

I had this issue with a similar FX system. The issue is the old USB controllers used by this board are not supported by macOS, even with a UTBMap.kext being present.

If you have a third-party PCIe USB adapter card installed, one that uses a natively supported ASMedia or Fresco Logic USB controller, that would be the best option to use when swapping the USB pen drive to the alternate port.

After I saw your reply, I added a USB PCIe card that worked fine in the past on misc hackintosh but this time, it doesn't work. No worries, I wanted to hack' this AM3+ platform just for fun but it's very complicated and not that interesting. Just for your information, I replaced USBMap.kext with USBToolBox.kext and UTBMap.kext, it booted fine until "validating root dmg" being stucked.

Renesas USB ports/controllers don’t work in the more recent versions of macOS.

Have a read of this Success Story for a similar FX system.
