Hello all

i am not so aware as before about upgrading my Hackintosh, which is stable on 14.3.1 so far
I tried to upgrade to 14.5 without success, last year, never knew where the pb is

So my question is:
as I have to level up the Mac OS to use Davinci (minimum 14.5 for the last version)
I would like to know if this rig can be upgraded to it without troubles

by troubles I mean not crazy modification of the config.plist

of course at minima I will have to upgrade kexts and open core version
but those points are not so tricky at my little level

I join to this message the EFI
but to resume Ryzen 3970x + Gigabyte Aorus TRx40 Master + RX 6900 XT + 256Gb DDR

maybe there is a thread which has same config as base would be happy to know it
if someone can help would be great

Cheers from Japan

If you have a working OpenCore EFI folder then you shouldn’t have to much trouble upgrading to 14.5 or newer on your system. As the majority of the work has already been undertaken and you have a template to follow for the new EFI folder.

Yes you need to use an updated version of OpenCore. The latest Release is 1.0.5.

You will also need to use the latest version of the AMD Kernel Patches and the kexts required for your system. Standard fair for any Hackintosh upgrade.

The only one who will introduce trouble to this process is you, if you don’t follow the instructions in the OpenCore guide.

Yes it is possible.
you could check also this thread where many systems as yours have been well configured in the near past time:

thank both of you
My 14.3.1 is pretty old and lot of rubbish in it and as I said I must install it straight away

i will try first to upgrade to 14.8 (I guess only Kexts will be necessary at this point)
then if I read in the forum that going to 15 is better or maybe waiting tiny bit for TAHOE then I will see later about it
will let you know how it goes

Cheers

PS: is there any difference in the config.plist between 15.X and 14.X?
my point is to know if between those 2 the difference is only located to the Kexts and Kernel Patches?

No there isn't any difference in the config.plist between Sonoma and Sequoia, if using the latest kexts and AMD Kernel Patches.

I use the same EFI in a number of my systems. No need to change anything, just select the required OS on the OC boot screen.

Once you have Tahoe installed, the same EFI should boot all three OS's. Just don't rush to install Tahoe, it still has a number of bugs that need fixing before it is really ready for use in a production system.

Hello All
so little resume of the situation

EVERYTHING WORK on 14.8
the limitation I had was on 2 points

1/ the AirportItlwm which was old and pointless for 14.4+
so I changed it BUT the config.plist was linked stil to the old one and never used this new one so always stuck on apple screen
after changing on the plist with OCAT (using new one and not old one) it was ok

2/ opencore 1.0.0 and ALL the kexts pretty old
so I upgraded everything through the automatic OCAT upgrade (kexts, plist, efi etc)
and then fully bootable

just tried tests on Geekbench v6
not crazy powerful compared with new Mac but as I use my rig on windows and macOS, with Nvidia cards for windows etc etc,
it is more 4 wheels drive rig than sport rig :-)

anyway thank you both of you

next step will be the level up on SEQUOIA
Normally it works but if you have any advices

Cheers

If you have updated OpenCore to release 1.0.5, are using the latest kext releases and the latest version of the AMD Kernel patches, then installing Sequoia should be relatively straightforward and painless.

thx
I guess I have new problems,
i had bluetooth ok for a while then after a reboot= FINITO

I join 2 screens if someone has an idea

iadded some kexts not activated
i have a tr40x aorus so intel wifi bluetooth

The order in which the Bluetooth kexts are loaded in your OC config.plist makes a difference to if and how the Bluetooth device works, or not.

I use the following order for the 3 x kexts when using an Intel Bluetooth device.
  1. IntelBluetoothFirmware.kext
  2. IntelBTPatcher.kext
  3. BlueToolFixup.kext
You need to make sure the USB port associated with the M.2 connector, which the Intel WiFi/BT card is connected through, is enabled and configured with the correct USB connector type in your USB configuration kext, I.e. set as ‘Internal’ (255).

After changing the order of the BT kexts in your configuration.plist, make sure to use the ResetNvram option from the OC boot screen.

Using dual displays is fairly standard, what exactly is the issue?
How are the displays connected to your dGPU, i.e. which cables or adapters are you using?
