Hello everyone,

I'm trying to install macOS Sonoma on my new Mini PC and I've hit a wall. I would be incredibly grateful for any help or guidance.

My hardware is a Beelink SER8 Mini PC:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS (8-Core / Zen 4 architecture)
  • iGPU: AMD Radeon 780M
  • RAM: 64 GB DDR5
  • Storage: M.2 NVMe SSD
I am trying to install a clean, vanilla version of macOS Sonoma. I have created the USB installer on a real MacBook and I've built an EFI from scratch following the Dortania OpenCore Install Guide for Zen CPUs.

The Problem:

No matter what I try, I cannot get past the initial boot phase. OpenCore loads, but when I select "Install macOS Sonoma", the boot process stops at the kernel patching stage. I always get a Halting on critical error.

Here is a photo of the last screen I see:

Halting on critical

As you can see, I am getting Not Found and is borked errors on the kernel patches.

What I Have Already Tried:

  • Following the Dortania guide very carefully.
  • Using the standard kernel patches for macOS Sonoma.
  • Using the newer, experimental kernel patches for macOS Sequoia.
  • Trying different Quirks like DummyPowerManagement, ProvideCurrentCpuInfo, and DisableIoMapperMapping.
  • Ensuring my BIOS settings are correct (Secure Boot OFF, Above 4G Decoding ON, UMA VRAM set to 4GB, CSM OFF).
  • Using a clean EFI with only the essential kexts (Lilu, VirtualSMC, NootedRed, SMCAMDProcessor, AppleALC, LucyRTL8125Ethernet, RestrictEvents).
It seems like there is a fundamental incompatibility between the standard AMD kernel patches and the specific kernel/firmware combination on this new Zen 4 hardware.

My Request:

Has anyone had success installing macOS on a Beelink SER8, or any other Mini PC with a Ryzen 7 8845HS or similar CPU (like the 7840HS)?

I believe at this point that building an EFI from scratch is not working. Would anyone be willing to share a complete, working EFI folder that I could use as a base? Or could you point out any specific ACPI files, boot-args, or quirks that are necessary for this new generation of hardware?

Any help at all would be deeply appreciated. I'm really stuck and eager to get this working.

Thank you so much in advance

Unfortunately, the AMD IGPU in your Mini PC isn’t compatible with macOS, so you are not going to have a good experience with this system. If you were to install macOS you would have graphics issues in general use, plus artefacts and tearing with some apps not working.

You may be better served by using the guide below to install macOS as a VM.
