Hello friends,

I have a question about updating macOS 26.01 to 26.1 on AMD CPU. I experience kernel panics when updating, probably due to problems with the Kext drivers or a possible incompatibility with the current kernel.

My guess is that the error is related to missing AMD patches and maybe a new patch is required or I'm making an installation mistake.
OpenCore was updated to version 1.0.6, tested both with and without WhateverGreen.kext, in both cases without success.

Has anyone already installed the update successfully and can confirm whether new AMD patches are necessary or whether it is a local setup issue?

Who has had similar experiences or successfully installed?

Hi @spakk
which hardware?
I installed with X870E and X670E platform
the only problem is if you need whatevergreen, in the first steps must be disabled and enabled again in the latest step of installation
Obviusly using the latest AMD Kernel Patches you find on github

Hello my friend,

I'm using a Ryzen 7 2700X and handled WhateverGreen.kext exactly as you described, meaning I disabled it during the initial installation steps and only re-enabled it in the final step. I'm also using the WhateverGreen.kext from laobamac.
The AMD patch is also the same one I already used for macOS Tahoe 26.01, which boots flawlessly.

I tested two installation methods:
a) using a USB installer
b) a 1:1 cloned macOS installation from my working Mac

Both unfortunately yielded the same negative result.
But it's at least encouraging to read that you were able to boot it successfully on your AMD system, which makes it clear that the patch is correct and it's probably just a Kext driver issue that I still need to resolve.

Thank you very much for your quick reply, my friend. 🙏

Everything is working now. It is not completely clear which change fixed the problem, because I made several adjustments. It was probably a mix of the edits in the config plist and some BIOS settings I changed a few days ago.

The important part is that the system is running stable and as expected. I am now updating the system to macOS tahoe 26.2
