[SUCCESS / SOURCE AVAILABLE] SK hynix PC711 working on macOS 11–26 — PC711Probe
PC711Probe is a Lilu compatibility plugin for the SK hynix PC711 NVMe SSD. It fixes the IONVMeFamilyIdentify/command timeout kernel panic seen on older macOS releases.Verified compatibility: PC711Probe 1.7.0 has successfully booted the same physical PC711 across macOS 11–15. macOS 11.6, 12.5.1, 13.4.1 and 14.6.1 were verified in Recovery, while macOS 15.6.1 completed a full installation and booted directly from the PC711. On macOS 15.6.1, the drive was detected at PCIe 3.0 x4 with TRIM enabled and S.M.A.R.T. verified, with measured performance of approximately 2766 MB/s write and 3006 MB/s read.
macOS 26: The same PC711 also works natively on macOS 26.5.1 (25F80 / Darwin 25.5.0), including normal I/O and sleep/wake. Neither PC711Probe nor NVMeFix is required on macOS 26, and PC711Probe intentionally does not load there.
PC711Probe automatically matches the SK hynix PC711 controller (1C5C:174A, NVMe class 01:08:02) and requires no activation boot argument. Its supported patching range is Darwin 20–24 / macOS 11–15. Other NVMe controllers are left unchanged.
Installation is standard for a Lilu plugin: place PC711Probe.kext in EFI/OC/Kexts, add it under Kernel -> Add, ensure Lilu loads before it, and remove any SSDT/AML configuration that hides the PC711. Keep a backup EFI and a rollback-capable USB before testing.
Current validation is limited to the hardware and firmware tested in the repository. Sleep/wake on macOS 11–15, long-duration stress testing, other PC711 firmware revisions and other platforms have not all been verified.
