AMD FX-8370
Hello everyone!

I have been trying to install MacOS in my AMD system from last two weeks. I have followed multiple tutorials and applied many solutions; however, still I am facing issue.

My system:
AMD FX-8370
Gigabyte 970A-DS3P Rev 2
RAM DDR3 32 GB
AMD Radeon RX 460

I have followed instructions in one YouTube video and created an EFI folder for my system.
I created an Installer USB on Mac Virtual Machine I created in VMWare. Added the EFI folder to the USB.

The issue I am facing is that USB is not working.
When I go to boot selection menu through F12, I see "OpenCore" and "Sandisk" as an option.

When I select "OpenCore", nothing happens and windows 10 boots as usual.
When I select "SanDisk", PC says "there is not bootable media please reboot your system by pressing any key"

I am not sure which step I am missing.

I would really appreciate your help.

Thanks!

Have a look at this Success story for a similar build.

Revised EFI for Monterey and possibly Ventura can be found here.

@Edhawk

Thank you!

The current version for OpenCore is 1.0.2. Do you suggest I use older version (0.8.1)?

Thanks,
Pratik

It won’t harm your system if you are installing an older version of macOS. The EFI folders provided in the linked thread should work with your system with little editing.

Hello @Edhawk!

I created a new Monterey installer USB in a VMware virtual machine.
Added the EFI folder from the discussion you shared earlier.

Still not effect, when I select "OpenCore" it does not do anything. It takes me to windows.
You can view the short recording here.

I am confused.

Your BIOS may not be routing the OpenCore option correctly. Instead select Sandisk... Assuming that's your USB.

Hello @Shaneee !

I selected the "Sandisk" option and got the attached error.

That most likely means you haven’t created the USB installer correctly.

Have you created and saved/copied the OpenCore EFI to the EFI Partition on the USB? Or did you save/copy the EFI folder to the Root of the USB?

If your system has a Legacy Bios then you need to add a Boot file to go with your EFI folder, both need to be placed in the USB EFI Partition for your ‘Legacy” system to find the OpenCore setup.

Hello @Edhawk !

I have Gigabyte 970A-DS3P (Rev 2.0) motherboard, which has a UEFI DuelBIOS.

---------------

I used two options in creating the USB.

1. With Balena Etcher. Once the USB was created, I used Explorer++ to add EFI folder to EFI partition.

2. With MacOS virtual machine and "OpenCore Legacy Patcher". Once the USB installer was created, I added the EFI folder to EFI Partition.

---------------

In both the option, when I was selecting "OpenCore" option, nothing was happening, and I was booting back to windows.
And when I was selecting the "Sandisk" option, I was getting the "Select Proper Boot Device" error.

I am not able to pinpoint the bottleneck.

@Shaneee

Yes, I tried that as well. All the options I tried were not working.

Same effects. Opencore > Nothing Happens > Boot to Windows.
Sandisk > Select Proper boot Device.

Then you are creating the USB installer incorrectly or need to look at your bios settings to allow the USB drive to boot your system.

Did you look through the multitude of Bios screenshots I provided in the linked FX thread? Do you have your Bios set up in a similar if not identical manner?

The only option you should be selecting from those shown in the video from post #6 is 'OpenCore'. None of the others will boot your system to the OC boot loader boot screen.

If your SanDisk drive had a 'UEFI Sandisk' option in the boot menu that would also work. As we don't see that option I would again stress the importance of creating your USB correctly along with having the correct bios settings, so your system can boot OpenCore and then the macOS installer.

Is your Windows installation a UEFI or MBR installation?

@Edhawk

Windows is UEFI installation.

I will recheck the BIOS settings, update them and be back with you with results.

Let me know if need anything from my end to understand the error.
