I recently visited the Apple Support page to check the validity of a Serial Number. I was surprised to see that you now have to 'Sign In' to your Apple Account to check your serial number. While this is on the English UK support site, I assume they will have rolled this out to all the other countries.

That will probably put a stop to us generating and checking Serial Numbers for the foreseeable future!

Not sure if you HAVE To sign in. But each time I have tried to check a Serial number have ended up with this page, not the normal positive or negative page.

I was able to check my iPhone serial without signing in with no issues.

The block happens after a couple of uses, or if your system has older cookies.

Apple are using Cookies to determine if you are overusing the checker. If the old Apple.com cookies are deleted, the checker is reset and will work again, until it doesn't.

Yikes - does that mean I need to hurry if I want to change SMBIOS from MacPro7,1 to iMacPro1,1 ?

No, it just means you might have to delete any Apple.com cookies from your browser, if you see the screen result shown in post No. 2.
