I have posted this in another forum, perhaps I could get more traction here in AMD specific forums - hopefully this isn't a breach of any rules. Happy to remove the post from the other forum if it offends anyone. I am merely doing my best to ask questions...
Mb: Gigabyte B550i Aorus Pro AX
Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12 cores
RAM: 32GB 3200 MHz DDR4
GPU: Asrock Challenger Series Radeon RX 6600 XT ITX Series 8GB
OC version: 1.0.1

I am trying to migrate a Monterey (Z690 intel) install to my AMD hardware as my Z690 hardware is dead .

I would like to update the installation to Sequoia, if it doesn't work, I'm willing to do a fresh install, but it would save me a lot of time and trouble as many of the software I use have to be re-activated and settings to redo.

First AMD ryzentosh - followed through Dortania's guide and made a few different config.plist as each of them failed, unable to past boot.

Out of desperation I found other's EFI of the same mobo, updating the core counts, checked USB mapping. Still stuck at the same point. Checked BIOS settings, just wouldn't boot, regardless it was my own plist or someone else's....

Today I made another attempt, and by coincidence turned on "SetupVirtualMap" to enabled, the exisiting Monterey install was able to boot into OSX login screen, but will crash within a few seconds of login. I understand this flag is to be disabled for B550 chipset. So I am really baffled as to why I could boot past the initial stage. Disabling the flag will get stuck at the same boot sequence before kext are loaded.

I have attached 2 different versions here (second one is after I have made attempt to tidy-up and mistakenly enabled the flag)

Please HELP! 🙏

You may be trying to do too many things at the same time.

A clean installation of macOS Sequoia may be a better option than updating an Intel system installation on an AMD hack.

You should note that the Dortania Ryzen guide says that the B550 system ‘might’ require SetupVirtualMap being disabled.

Also there is no chance of the Intel USB configuration working in your AMD setup. You need to remove the Intel USBPorts.kext, enable the XhciPortLimit quirk in your config.plist and generate a new USBMap.kext.

Thank you for your reply Edhawk,

I am running out of steam trying to get this migration happening, so decided will go with a new install.

The main issue is that I couldn't boot the installer, as my config seem to get stuck at EXTIBS:START no matter what I do, except the rare case where I changed SetupVirtalMap to [true].

You should note that the Dortania Ryzen guide says that the B550 system ‘might’ require SetupVirtualMap being disabled.
Yes, following the guide - it freezes at [EB|#LOG:EXITBS:START] with it being disabled [FALSE], making SetupVirtualMap [TRUE] allows me to login.

Also there is no chance of the Intel USB configuration working in your AMD setup. You need to remove the Intel USBPorts.kext, enable the XhciPortLimit quirk in your config.plist and generate a new USBMap.kext.
Yes I understand the USB port mapping are unique for every board (an from what I gathered, could be different with different BIOS versions too?). My USBMap.kext is generated with USBToolbox tool in windows 11. I tested one I generated with all ports enabled with XhciPortLimit enabled + SetVirtualMap disabled, but booting stuck at EXITBS:START.

Forgot to say, this is new EFI folder, I have not ported anything from Intel setup over. I am running the EFI from a USB, as I am trying to also boot OSX installer.

I am going to make another new EFI and go through the AMD troubleshoot section to see if I have missed anything.
If you have any pointers please share 🙏
