Hi @, I am running Sonoma 14.6.1 on my laptop (Rog g14 2022). It is working fine but I want to increase performance, if possible. Is it possible to use the dedicated GPU for better performance?
Also using the default resolution option in DIsplays makes the icons really small, so I have to use (HiDPI).

Unfortunately it's not possible to use your iGPU because the creators of VMWare haven't made a video driver compatible with macOS and you won't find it in any virtualized system with windows as the host and macOS as guest.

You can get a tiny, almost imperceptible improvement by installing VMWare Tools.

This tool comes with VMWare Workstation Pro.

To install VMWare Tools, with the macOS system already booted and the CD/DVD drive ejected, go to the VMWare menu and choose “VM” and then “Install VMWare Tools”.

It still shows only these two options.

By installing VMWare Tools you will see a new resolution in this place after changing the resolution with the commands in the macOS terminal.

You can only change the resolution within MacOS. Ex: 1600x1100. To do this, type in the terminal :

sudo /Library/Application\ Support/VMware\ Tools/vmware-resolutionSet 1600 1100

Note: In VMWare's Display settings you need to set the resolutions higher than or equal to the ones you'll be using in macOS.

Hi,

I already have the Tools installed. The issue I am having is with the Scale (like in Windows). How do I change that? Overall performance is much better when I am using the default resolution, but the Scale is wrong.

Unfortunately, I have no experience of working with scales.

Now I have my Sonoma with 8 CPU and 16 gb ram (host amd 5950x) running on Eaxi8 thanks to this thread, I was benchmarking this using Geekbench 6 and the multi core CPU speed came out roughly equivalent to a mac mini m1 and single core speed roughly half that of an m1. Is this the same sort of ballpark performance everyone is getting?
Incidentally the CPU performance on current gen enterprise grade xenon was about 2/3 of the AMD chips (using hypervisor nesting with running osx inside esxi8 which was nested under esxi8 - to avoid polluting hypervisor metal with unlocker) and unlocked with DrDonks unlocker.
I was surprised to see how fast some of the m2 and higher chips in the benchmarks were compared the x64 ones. X64 rules on flexibility/price but in walled garden benchmarking, Apple m series seem to sadly rule the roost, but it really hurts me to say that due to my strong dislike of anything Apple!

Hello, thank you for your tutorial. I successfully installed Sonoma. I have a small question, is there any way to make the animation of minimizing the window smoother?

You need to install VMWare Tools for it to work.

It comes with VMWare Workstation Pro or can be downloaded from the internet, but at the moment the newer versions that work with macOS 14 are not easy to find.

If you go back a few posts with patience, a user has left a link to this.

From the message you posted, although it doesn't contain much information, for some reason your machine has a problem with storing data on the drive. Check everything on your computer for corrupt system files in Windows or macOS and repair them.

Are you shutting down macOS correctly or simply closing the window while the system is running?

Check if any physical device on your machine is causing the problem.

This is not possible because the Metal API that uses GPU does not work with the video card that VMWare uses and because it is not compatible. I believe that's why it doesn't have a functional driver with this feature.

And you won't find it in Virtualdub or any other means of virtualized macOS running on Windows.

So Metal and Quartz Extreme are disabled.

I have exact error. did you find any fix for that?
Perhaps the .vmx file that contains the virtual machine settings is incorrect and you need to create another virtual machine.

Or maybe this discussion on this forum will help you.

how? how can we disable this in windows 11? Because if i install vmware tools, mac becomes really slulggish. it works fine without vmware tools. but the issue is without vmware tools its not usable. like copy and paste functions and other screen function do not work properly.

Have you installed/updated your vmware tools and changed the max resolution in your VM settings? I'm using a 5800X3D & RTX 4080 and i have no issues running Sonoma, seems to run pretty smoothly for me.
can you show us the smoothnesss by uploading video somewhere? i dont know why my macos becomes really sluggish when i install vmware tools

Note that all cores MUST be on the same CPU. In the following screen, having 2 processors with 2 core each did not work, frozen on boot

The point you mentioned is very crucial. I encountered this issue and have already resolved it. Thank you very much. My CPU is R9 3900, and I have successfully run macOS Sonoma. Additionally, I copied the macOS Ventura system running on another computer (i5 9400) with VMWare, and it also starts successfully. Many thanks to tucano2000 for providing the solution and various software resources.
