Mac OS install on AMD Ryzen/INTEL (VMWare) Opencore - Improved Performance - Works with Sequoia / Sonoma / etc

The 'Find My' feature relies on Location Services, iCloud and WiFi all working.

Have you enabled Location Services, signed in to iCloud and reconfigured your WiFi to work with Sequoia?

See the guide from Apple below:

I thought that there's no way to configure a network card to be a wireless network.
Mine sort of works - the map (also in the Maps app) doesn't display a map visually.

That is more likely to be a graphics limitation, as your VM won’t have full graphics acceleration.

Hello, after doing this on vmware workstation pro 17, all works but i don't have any sound.
It also really bug when oppening the app menu (forgot the name)

I tried to install kext but nothing worked
I don't know anything about this so if you have a solution could you give me a tutorial on how to do it please.

Which kext did you install, AppleALC.kext or VoodooHDA.kext?
Where did you install the kext, OC setup or /Library/Extensions folder?
Do you use any audio related boot arguments?

Graphics issues when opening Launchpad will be related to the no graphics acceleration issue previously mentioned.

I tried installing VoodooHDA, here the 2 folder you ask. I didn't put any boot arguments. image_2025-02-01_124108778.pngimage_2025-02-01_124150241.png

You shouldn’t have both the AppleALC & VoodooHDA kexts installed. Only use one or the other to prevent a clash.

Also VoodooHDA.kext should be installed to /Library/Extensions folder, not the /OC/Kexts folder. You need to use a Kext installer to add the VoodooHDA kext to /L/E folder. Do not copy and paste or drag and drop the Kext to the /L/E folder as this will cause unnecessary issues.

Following the information in this post, I put the iMacPro1.1 in SMBIOS and both Sonoma and the XCode Simulator seemed to run and load a little faster. Confirm if the same happens.

heyy, mine struck here. i followed this page tutorial. i don't make any changes in the .vmx file. still I cant figure it out. r5 6600H/rtx3050/16gb ram

I also noticed my audio doesn't work - no audio output devices are shown.

Will following this guide be the way to get audio output device? Do I need to specify a sound card in VMware settings?

Use VoodooHDA.kext in place of AppleALC.kext and you might have more joy with audio in macOS VM.

So, to confirm:
Delete AppleALC.kext
put VoodooHDA.kext in /Library/Extensions
Run ProperTree, OC Snapshot, save
???
Done!

No, ProperTree has nothing to do with installing a kext to /L/E folder.

You would need to do the following to deal with AppleALC.kext:
  1. Mount the EFI partition
  2. Open the EFI folder, navigating to the kexts folder and remove/delete AppleALC.kext
  3. Open the config.plist with ProperTree and remove the Kernel > Add entry for AppleALC.kext,
  4. Remove the alcid=1 or similar boot argument from the NVRAM > Add section.
  5. Set cos-active-config (SIP) to <03080000>, which partially disables SIP and allows unsigned kexts in macOS.
  6. Save the config.plist and reboot your system.

When installing VoodooHDA.kext to /Library/Extensions folder, follow the instructions in this post by @Max.1974

Well, this error again. I don't know what happens here. I've already tried like past time, disabling Hyper-V, disabling the Memory Integrity Checks, setting cores to 4, re-enabling and re-disabling Hyper-V, but nothing worked. What I need to do here to fix this problem?

Has anyone had success in changing the serial number? I tried to do that but after I restarted, the bootloader worked fine but got stuck (each time on a random kernel message with 100% CPU utilization) while booting into macOS. What I did was: generate a serial number, type: iMacPro1,1, MLB, UUID and ROM, following this guide, and edit EFI > OC > config.plist in OPENCORE disk with ProperTree in the VM. I had to download the opencore vmdk again (from OP) and booted fine.

EDIT: I generated another set of serial numbers with iMac20,2 and it works now!

As an FYI - if you upgrade VMware to 17.6.2, Sonoma seems to work fine, but when you go to update to Sequoia (or if you already did), the next time you reboot, you will get error messages, and it won't boot.

ACPI errors, AppleVTD is not yet installed as gSystem.

Edit: Reinstalling the patch seems to have corrected this. Duh on me, I guess. Wish I had figured this out before reverting to Sonoma snapshot.

Hi all, I am trying to follow the instructions, but I'm having an issue getting Sonoma installed (I also tried installing Ventura). I keep getting stuck on the same garbled error screen. I have tried going from 8 cores to 4, downgrading my VMware workstation from the latest to 17.0.1, double, triple, and quadruple checking all the Windows virtualization stuff was right, but I can't for the life of me get it to work at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here are some screenshots of my issues:

Hi..I have a small problem..It doesn't work for me to add because I have an older version..Does anyone have an older version?? I have VMware Workstation 16....It doesn't want to go to the newer version 17...Thank you

This version only works with Ryzen processors with 8 cores or more
Download New Version of VMWare disk image file Here: OPENCORE 1.0.2 - 8 cores

Does anyone have the same version as me?
