Hey everyone, hope this is the right place to ask this. I've been getting super into io games lately and honestly didn't expect them to be as demanding as they are. Started with the usual suspects like Agar.io and Slither.io which run fine on pretty much anything, but then I moved into some of the newer titles like Zombs Royale, Krunker.io, and Venge.io and my current setup is kind of struggling.
The thing that's catching me off guard is how graphics-heavy some of these browser games have become. Like Krunker especially has some pretty intense rendering going on, and when there's a lot of players on screen or I'm in a detailed map area, I'm getting noticeable frame drops. I know these are browser-based games so people assume they're lightweight, but the modern ones are basically full games that just happen to run in Chrome.
I'm currently running an older Intel setup with integrated graphics and I'm thinking it's time for an upgrade. From what I've been reading, AMD processors seem like they'd be perfect for this kind of gaming since they handle multiple threads really well and a lot of these io games are surprisingly CPU intensive, especially when you've got multiple tabs open or streaming in the background.
My main questions are: Would something like a Ryzen 5 or Ryzen 7 be overkill for primarily playing io games? Or would the extra cores actually help with the browser overhead and multitasking? Also, do I need to pair it with a dedicated GPU or can I get away with AMD's integrated graphics on the newer chips?
I've heard the Radeon graphics on the newer Ryzen APUs are actually pretty solid for 1080p gaming. Since most io games aren't as optimized as AAA titles, I'm wondering if raw processing power matters more than having a separate graphics card.
Also curious if anyone here plays io games competitively and what kind of setup you're running. Games like Surviv.io and Diep.io might look simple but when you're trying to maintain consistent high FPS for competitive play, every frame matters.
Would really appreciate any advice from people who've built systems specifically with browser gaming in mind. Budget isn't super tight but I'm also not trying to build a crazy high-end rig just for io games and general use.
Thanks in advance for any help.
