Not true. I have intel BT/Wifi, didn't have to do any of this, on any of my macos versions, be it clean install or upgrade. Never had to on any version of macos on a hackintosh :) clean install or upgrade.

Working perfectly for me, didn't show up in software update, went into the App Store, downloaded it, ran it, let it do it's thing, worked perfect, didn't change any previous efi/kexts/etc.
