So fingers crossed I’ll hopefully soon be getting my hands on a Ryzen 7 5800X and a Gigabyte Aorus Radeon RX 6800 XT Master 16GB GPU. Currently have a rx580 and a R5 3600.
What would I need to do before powering down to replace parts to ensure successful boot?
Just change the core count patch? To what?
Boot args for GPU? Which one?

Is the above a good & worth while upgrade?

You don’t need to do anything other then the core count and add agdpmod=ignore to your boot arguments or even better don’t add a boot argument and just disable WEG all together (Big Navi definitely works better without WhateverGreen then with it IMO)

Thanks. But looks like I’ll need to pull the budget in and maybe get a 6700 xt.
Still gotta be a good upgrade from the rx580?
Would the same apply for the 6700 as for the 6800?
I don’t know much about this brand, any good?

PowerColor Radeon RX 6700 XT Red Devil OC 12GB RDNA 2

6700 has no support on MacOS, 6600 does though using 12.1 beta

Oh damn. I had hoped with the 6600 support 6700 would be supported also.
So something like this?
PowerColor Radeon RX 6600 XT Red Devil OC 8GB RDNA 2
Being the bottom end of the 6000 series wouldn’t see much improvement over the rx580 would it?
For gaming and general usage.

Thanks for that. So at 1440p it shouldn’t be too bad and still a definite upgrade from a RX580 8G.
I’ll see how the budget holds up. GPU prices are crazy high here in Aus. 2k minimum for a good card.
Although I just found this for $1699

What are your thoughts on the cpu upgrade? Worth the upgrade or do I try bounce up to a R9 5900X ?

I’m always on the latest bios and at present it’s a beta bios. Bios support for 5000 series was added a while ago.

Ok I think I’ve decided on the below.
Is powercolor a good brand?
850w should be fine yeah? I currently have an 850w but it’s getting a bit long in the tooth

Change of plans. About to pull the pin on this.
From a Ryzen 5 3600 and a sapphire RX 580 8gb.
Can anyone see anything wrong?

@savage001 Don't get the APU, it'll cause audio issues even with the iGPU disabled.

Yeah I didn’t. I went with a R9 5900X, Powercolor RX6800XT Red Devil OC (sale ends in less than 2 hours) and the Phanteks Revolt Pro PSU as well as the lian li GPU anti sag bracket.
Hopefully I did well.

Ok so disabling weg brings me to a black screen after entering my password and so does adding the boot arg adgpmod=ignore.
I ended up getting a RX6800XT.
Core count patch is fine just no display.
I’m using DisplayPort but can change to hdmi if it’s better.
Do I need to set bios to gen 3 or gen 4?
It’s on Auto now.

I’ve tried gen 3 and 4 with and without weg with and without adgpmod=disable & pikera.
Could it be a ssdt? SSDT-SBRG in particular?
Card device id is 73bf.
