Trying to Install Catalina on a Phenom VM

I've been trying for a while to install macOS 10.15 (Catalina) on VirtualBox or VMWare on my system (Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5 motherboard, AMD Phenom II X6 1100T CPU). I've plowed through numerous on-line guides (and have never seen such a desperate need for technical editing and proofreading, but I digress). I've had no luck with VirtualBox, but finally got to the Apple boot screen under VMWare, at which point everything stopped. I'm guessing now that the problem is that Catalina wants the full SSE4.1 instruction set, but the Phenom only supports up to SSE4A. Am I correct? If so, I assume I'd need to inject an SSE4.1 emulator into the osX kernel. Is such a thing even available? Or preferably, is there a better or easier way to accomplish this?

Thanks.
