Hi all,

I will keep it breif a small issue that I am not to fussed to sort but would just help me out a tad. So with Opencanopy setup my OC Boot Picker will not allow any resoloution greater than 1280x1024.
I am using a 3400x1400 display so I would'nt mind being able to use the whole screen resolution. Below is the debug information for this issue.

02:489 00:003 OC: Requested resolution is 3400x1400@0 (max: 0, force: 1) from 3400x1400
02:493 00:004 OCC: Missing OcForceResolution protocol - Not Found
02:497 00:003 OCC: Requesting 3400x1400@0 (max: 0) resolution, curr 0, total 7
02:501 00:003 OCC: Current FB at 0xE8000000 (0x800000), format 1, res 1280x1024 scan 2048
02:505 00:003 OCC: Mode 0 - 1280x1024:1
02:508 00:003 OCC: Mode 1 - 640x480:1
02:511 00:003 OCC: Mode 2 - 800x600:1
02:515 00:003 OCC: Mode 3 - 1024x768:1
02:518 00:003 OCC: Mode 4 - 1280x720:1
02:521 00:003 OCC: Mode 5 - 1280x800:1
02:525 00:004 OCC: Mode 6 - 1280x1024:1
02:529 00:003 OCC: No compatible mode for 3400x1400@0 (max: 0) resolution
02:532 00:003 OC: Changed resolution to 3400x1400@0 (max: 0, force: 1) from 3400x1400 - Not Found

I am a little stumped as I have heard of disabling mutiple BIOS Settings such as CMS and other Legacy Support that may affect disaply resoloution on boot but this has been to no availe.

Thanks taking the time to read.

NVRAM -> Add -> 4D1EDE05-38C7-4A6A-9CC6-4BCCA8B38C14:

  • UIScale
  • 01: Standard resolution
  • 02: HiDPI (generally required for FileVault to function correctly on smaller displays)

    UEFI -> Output:
    • TextRenderer set toBuiltinGraphics
    • Resolution: set to Max for best results
    • Optionally can specify resolution: WxH@Bpp (e.g. 1920x1080@32) or WxH (e.g. 1920x1080)
    • ProvideConsoleGop set to True

It's documented here, https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Post-Install/cosmetic/verbose.html#macos-decluttering

If you are using a DP cable try using a hdmi cable instead or vise versa if you have it connected the other way around.
Samsung Monitors and TVs are funny old things and for some strange reason default to low resolutions with OpenCore.
When I had a 4K HDR Samsung monitor it did exactly the same thing and I could resolve it by either using a hdmi cable instead of a dp cable or by setting my BootPicker Resolution to 1440p.

My Samsung 65 inch 4K TV scales the desktop to 1080p as standard and I have to scale it back up to 4K and enable HDR manually. Stupid thing 😂

Hi I am using a HDMI output from my Graphics card. I have the resoloution set to 3400x1400 under the resoloution section of UEFI -> Output.

If you can try a DP cable instead and or set the resolution to 2560x1440 instead and turn off force resolution (try it both ways)

3840 x 2160 is correct res for 4K not 3400 x 1400, That’s a weird sizing, is it wide or something?

I will attempt to set it to 2560x1440 once I am home, currently in the office. My grpahics card unfortunantly does not have a DP output however. i do find its weird that I get the output of:
02:493 00:004 OCC: Missing OcForceResolution protocol - Not Found
02:497 00:003 OCC: Requesting 3400x1400@0 (max: 0) resolution, curr 0, total 7

02:508 00:003 OCC: Mode 1 - 640x480:1
02:511 00:003 OCC: Mode 2 - 800x600:1
02:515 00:003 OCC: Mode 3 - 1024x768:1
02:518 00:003 OCC: Mode 4 - 1280x720:1
02:521 00:003 OCC: Mode 5 - 1280x800:1
02:525 00:004 OCC: Mode 6 - 1280x1024:1

However as it acts as if its looking for a mode size. Maybe there is a set limit. Strange I understand Samsungs being fiddly! Tell me about it hard enough to get a Samsung TV and Sky Box to working together haha!

Ok that makes sense now :)
I do have the sense this is a BIOS problem with AS-Rock as my BIOS also refuses to open above a 1280 x 1024 size hmm.

You could try a dp port to hdmi converter. You can get decent ones for not a lot on Amazon now days.

I will look into this I have a spare one at my partners as well as some at work I'll give it a try once I get one and I will let you all know. GPU -> HDMI -> DPI

Going to also give 02: HiDPI (generally required for FileVault to function correctly on smaller displays) a go and see if this changes anything as well

Oh and by the way ASRock boards are Notorious for chucking out low resolutions in the bios with certain monitors and you can bet on Samsung being one of them…lol
