As part of WWDC today, Apple announced the next major version of its desktop operating system, macOS Monterey. The Shortcuts app is now available on the Mac to achieve ‘peak productivity’. Safari is getting a new design including an integrated tab bar, that sits alongside the search field.

Universal Control allows you to more easily use an iPad with a Mac, as your keyboard and mouse seamlessly moves over to each device. You can even drag and drop between your connected devices.

Apple called Shortcuts as the future of automation on Mac, and the first steps in Monterey are part of a multi-year transition. Automator will continue to be supported in this release and Automator workflows can be imported into Shortcuts.

AirPlay to Mac lets your Mac be an AirPlay destination, so you can quickly play content from your iPhone your Mac’s display.

In addition, Monterey includes features that are also coming to iOS 15, including updated FaceTime, Focus notification modes and SharePlay for watching content with others.

Edit:

Do the current patches break using Monterey?
If so how bad is it?

Yes. We think it's now down to the cores and threads calculation patch. I was able to start verbose boot but paniced before anything really loaded. I'll keep the thread updated.

Yeah TRX40 will behave differently and we'll get a test on it once we are ready ;) Currently this is the panic we are facing,

Code:

Booting Monterey Installer vs Macintosh HD logs both result in roughly the same ending:

However Monterey hangs here, while Macintosh HD boots. I'll try and leave it like that for longer to see what happens, sometimes it just takes a bit of patience, but I have my doubts given the iconic "#[EB.LD.OFS|OPEN!] Err(0xE) <"usr\\standalone\\OS.dmg.root_hash">"... yay. I'm almost certain I remember that error was specifically to do with kernel. Also more interestingly I don't get any "NOT FOUND" like @fabiosun but several "patcher skips kernel". This happened when booting Macintosh HD as well but still resulted in a boot.

Left it for an hour while I went out with my dog. No luck. Still at the same screen. Looking more in depth at the log it looks like every patch is skipped on the Monterey side, not a single "Kernel patcher result - Success/" in sight. Looks like version incompatibility if I'm reading it right? Would forcing it to load do anything here?

Excerpt from Monterey log:

Correct the MaxKernel for Monterey is 21.99.99 but without patches for it doubt it’ll work. They’ve added an extra check for GenuineIntel which needs patched too. Currently it looks like our patches are updated but there is something else causing a kernel panic.

Thanks for the help got the patches loading ran into effectively the same "NOT FOUND" errors you all had except for one. Here's a quick pdf with a comparison of what loads/doesn't between Monterey and my working Macintosh HD. Note interestingly that I have one extra patch that didn't load in addition to the above mentioned --- number 17 -> algrey - cpuid_set_cpufamily - force CPUFAMILY_INTEL_PENRYN. Given that looks like a CPU family spoofer, maybe it narrows the GenuineIntel problem down to that? In the PDF "Warning" means it was successful in my working disk but not Monterey.

Are the patches also updated for clover?

@Shaneee here seems to be only three....could you expose the fourth one?

Thank you

I was trying to boot the "Macintosh HD Installer disk" which contains the 1st part of the Monterey installation on a new USB drive (I ran the Monterey installer under Big Sur and then on the 1st reboot, I so far cannot boot to complete the next part of the installation). Of course, it will not boot into the 2nd part of the Monterey installation (OC error files shown below).

One odd finding from a couple of days ago, was that I could not select a drive from the OC boot menu if:
1) the Monterey SSD (USB) was connected
2) I had the new AMD 6900XT GPU, that was working under the latest Big Sur betas, installed.

Once I swapped the GPU back to the AMD RX580 GPU, the OC boot menu worked as expected, allowing me to choose either the Monterey installer USB drive or one of two Big Sur NVMe drives.

Anyhow, back to the OC error file. I disabled the 3 patches shown above by fabiosun and got the following boot file from OC debug, v071 (TRX40 mobo):

Note that the "GenuineIntel" and "CPUFAMILY_INTEL_PENRYN" (using the post 11.4 version) patches did load. Most everything else loaded as expected, including a limited set of kext files. The curious thing is the "ProvideCurrentCpuInfoZeroMsrThreadCoreCount" not being found, highlighed below. Oddly, at the top of this OC text file (attached without SNs), the CPU model, core and thread count were accurately reported.

The boot stopped at the same place noted by IB8.

DhinakG - cpuid_set_cpufamily - force CPUFAMILY_INTEL_PENRYN - 11.3b1 was correctly loaded on my end looking at the pdf again, the version I referred to and had loading on my HD was an older version (currently still on Catalina) of that patch, so we can (probably) safely ignore that one. Disabling non-working patches yields same results as @iGPU. I'm installing Big Sur today, haven't had the time to use my machine in ages let alone update it, just got back to the Hackintosh scene. I'm going to log that installer as well as the Big Sur boot and compare and see what I find, but probably nothing worthwhile. It looks like we all have the same 4 patches not working:

algrey - cpuid_set_cache_info - don't set cpuid_cores_per_package
algrey - cpuid_set_info - jmp to calculations and set cpuid_cores_per_package - 10.15/10.16
algrey - cpuid_set_info - cores and threads calculations - 10.15/10.16
algrey - lapic_init - remove version check and panic - 10.15
