Hello folks,

So my curiosity got piqued by Hackintosh, and I'd like to give it a try on my old AMD FX build. Here's what's in it:
Gigabyte 970A-DS3P
FX6300 Vishera 3.5GHz x 6 core
16GB Kingston KHX1600C10D3
Diamond Radeon 7750HD
WD Blue 1TB

I do know that FX processors aren't supported anymore, and I can work with that. This would mainly to be rid of Windows 10. My use of OS X would mostly be Steam, internet browsing and AutoCAD.

Cheers

Awesome, thank you. Working on my bootable USB right now, I will be sure to post if I have any question or issues.

I heard through the grapevine I would be better off starting with Catalina and then updating to Big Sur. Is this in your experience true, or can I just skip to the Big Sur build?

That's your choice. You can try with Big Sur first. If it doesn't work then use Catalina. That way if you break the Catalina system updating to Big Sur you'd need to install Catalina again :)

Nice. I'll start with Catalina first then.

So far on my bootable usb:

Bootstrap.efi
Hfsplus.efi
OpenRuntime.efi
AirportBrcmFixup.kext
AppleALC.kext
AppleMCEReporterDisabler.kext
BrcmBluetoothInjector.kext
BrcmFirmwareData.kext
BrcmFirmwareRepo.kext
BrcmNonPatchRAM.kext
BrcmNonPatchRAM2.kext
BrcmPatchRAM2.kext
BrcmPatchRAM3.kext
Lilu.kext
NoTouchID.kext
RealtekRTL8111-V2.2.2
SMCBatteryManager.kext
SMCDellSensors.kext
SMCLightSensor.kext
SMCProcessor.kext
SMCSuperIO.kext
VirtualSMC.kext
WhateverGreen.kext
XLNCUSBFix.kext
DSDT.aml (which I am not sure I did right)
OpenShell.efi
OpenCore.efi

Likely some of those will be useless and some will be missing.

These aren't needed,

SMCBatteryManager.kext
SMCDellSensors.kext
SMCLightSensor.kext
SMCProcessor.kext
SMCSuperIO.kext
DSDT.aml

And unless you've got a Broadcom card you don't need the Brcm kexts.

Good, I'll make sure and trim the fat. Thanks.

I'm at the part about SSDTs now -- FX-6300 is Vishera, right? So should I get the Bulldozer/Jaguar SSDT? For my first Hack probably better if I go with the prebuilt ones.

It depends on your system. You should in theory only need the EC SSDT from the Dortania guide.
