Hello there,

If searched for this topic bit didn‘t found a good guid.
Is there anything that need to be done before changing the graphics card? Because im not sure if Macos installs the right driver(for the RX480) while the first boot that could cause errors with another one.

I wanna downgrade from a rx480 to a rx550 or hd6770 if possible.

Thanks
Mathis

The 550 probably isn't supported in macOS and I'm not sure about the 6770. What's the device ID of that card?

The device ID for 6670 is either 1002 68B8 or 1002 68BA and I doubt that it will work under macOS. The best option would be RX 560 or 7000 series like 7790 or 7950 or 7970.

Thanks for the fast reply´s and the better options!

My Saphhire card has the id 1002 68B8. Is there any workaround or are those just unsupported?
Is there a chance when i try the rx 550 that the Os gets broken? Or will it just doesn´t boot?

You can try this SSDT which will spoof the device ID for AMD Radeon 6870 which is supported on older versions of macOS (I guess High Sierra is the last os that supports 6000 Series Apple dropped support for 6000 series on Mojave and above if I'm not mistaking)

@Cyberdevs you are correct.

The 6000 and older series of cards were dropped at the end of High Sierra as none of them support the Metal API, which is a pre-requisite for running any of the newer versions of macOS.
