Hi All,

Have a fully working setup except for audio on a MSI MPG B550 Gaming Edge Wifi - https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MPG-B550-GAMING-EDGE-WIFI/Specification

I've tried using all the alcid= in the boot params, no go. I do notice as I switch through the ids the output options change in sound preferences.

I've tried moving the headphone jack to each output on the motherboard under id 1, no go.

Has anyone got this working on this mobo?

Here's more information -

have you tried the "internal speakers" ? that one is usually linked to the main line out at the back

Progress - I hear intermittent static when I play an mp4 on "Internal Speakers"

Sound works fine when I boot Windows.

Also tried headphones instead of speakers, and hear static on the headphones as well.

Tried all outputs on mobo.

Seems to only output static at max volume.

great! one thing that happeng to me on laptop, is that sometimes, when booting from windows to mac, I would get no audio unless I reseted the NVRAM with OpenCore, it was either that, or shutting down the laptop and booting straight to macos.

just to confirm, you are changing the alcid number in the bootargs right? if you are doing it on devices on opencore config.plist it will not work

What CPU do you have? If it's an APU model with integrated graphics then that's the issue.

Yes I tried cycling through ids on the bootargs - I did most testing on line out though. Let me try a few with internal speakers

For transparencey, my other boot args are (cycled 1,2,3) -v keepsyms=1 debug=0x100 alcid=1 npci=0x2000 agdpmod=pikera

I tried switching to the headphone jack and rebooted on alcid=1. Surprisingly the sound option changed from internal speakers to headphones.

Still static.

I would suggest as a next step to disconnect the front panel connector from the motherboard, and just try again with alcid 1, seems to me like this could be something other than a software issue, so give it a try...

If I dual boot to windows 10, audio works perfectly fine via line out and headphones...

I was thinking on something related to the switching from internal to headphones that the motherboard does, but if it works in windows, then that would not be the case

Reading a little on the internet... not specific to your motherboard, but kind of similar problem... try ID 11

ALCS1200A no audio after big sur update

Gave it a shot, tried 11, 49, 50, 51 - Still no go.

Also tried all combinations for the ALC888/ALC1200

Is there any log location I could check?

I also can't seem to get static when playing youtube via safari/firefox. No sound at all. The only time I get static is when using Music, or VLC Media Player to test an mp3.

Have you tried this on catalina? is the same issue present? maybe is a bug in AppleALC with BigSur, (just to make sure) unfortunately seems like you have everything right, the device is even showing up in ioregistry I can't seem to find the issue based on your troubleshooting and the settings that you've tried.

Same audio device as my board. Only difference is the codec ID and sub device ID. I'm injecting the ALC layout using Device Properties.
