So I ran software update and it said Beta 8 was available as a delta. Weird. The full installer said Beta 8 on it. I had a lot of Issues with B7, so that may have required a full install of the latest available build.
Update ran ok and I'm on 205374i now.
Beta 8 dropped and it seems it requires the full 12gb download instead of a delta from Beta 7.
I tried running the installer from the desktop, but it complained that my Big Sur disk:
The volume can not be used because it is not snapshot booted
I created an installer USB from the Beta 8...
The Experimental OpenCore branch worked for me. They updated it 2 days ago for Beta 7.
I also had to unplug my Corsair USB gear as it thought I was running on battery, due to the Commander Pro showing up as a UPS. I had to unplug it from the internal usb2 headers for BS install, but not for...
My prior build of OC 0.6.1 from 8/23/20 didn't boot the updater, but making a clean release build from OC Builder solved it and no other drama on an update from Beta 5.
Do you have an EFI folder for open core at the root of the EFI volume?
I’ve forgotten to do that when swapping configs and it gives an error like that.

So I had it set to Gen3, and changing to Auto/Gen4 didn't solve it.
I didn't do all of the regression testing, but it looks like AppleWatchdog was the missing piece.
Also, the installer would quit back to the start when selecting the disk because of my Corsair Commander Pro and Lighting Nodes...
I went back and re-added the patches from the experimental opencore branch and it had no effect. The installer fully boots, but when it tries to go from console to installer GUI, it crashes back to the console.
I've played around with resolutions and number of monitors to no avail.
I even...
I finally have BS Beta 5 booting past the EXITBS screen, but then the installer tries to load the GUI and its a mix of console and garbled text. Catalina does the same thing when doing updates on the MacOS installers boots.
RebuildAppleMemoryMap = True
SetupVirtualMap = False...
@edo - I added benchmarks in the OP
@iamso78 - I don't hear any whine, but I have a lot of fans and the AIO pump that probably mask it. Also, if you use:
shutdown /s /t 0
to shutdown it will fully shutdown with above4g and F20a bios. Annoying, but WAY worth the benefits in Catalina...
Like many others here, I've been dogged by the terrible mousing performance using Catalina and a RDNA card.
I just did a manual flip between my standard and backup BIOS to confirm that the latest updates with the newest AGESA has made a tremendous difference.
I'm using the F20a bios on my...
Update:
1/13/2021 Update: I updated OC, AMD Vanilla, and Catalina to Big Sur. I also upgraded the processor to a Zen 3 5950x.
The old 3900x is 12 cores and the 5950 is 16 cores. I updated the benchmarks and Zen 3 is a definite improvement.
Config:
MacPro 7,1
OpenCore 0.6.5
CPU: Ryzen 9 5950X...
